Feel Good Friday: Will You Choose to See the Flowers?

There are always flowers for those who want to see them.

Feel Good Friday is a regular series to give you a smile, a chuckle, or a nugget of wisdom to get your weekend off on the right foot!

There are always flowers for those who want to see them.

Have you ever had one of those weeks where even though nothing major went wrong, you still feel totally drained because about a million minor things did?

The kind of week where burning dinner on the stove feels like a tragedy, only because it was preceded by three days straight of takeout and you wonder why you even bother trying to make a homemade meal.

The kind of week where trying to be on time to anything seems like a complete waste of effort because you know it is never going to happen.

The kind of week where you lose your patience with your whining toddler every other minute, only to learn he’s had an ear infection and you didn’t realize it (guilty…)

Eventually you throw up your hands and declare that if one more thing goes wrong, you’re just going back to bed.

I think we all have weeks like that, and they make it really tough to see the beautiful flowers all around us.

We become blind to the sunshine peeking through the clouds.

We fail to notice the kind smiles of strangers.

We start living in flustered-autopilot-mode, and we start looking at our kids without really seeing them

If you had one of those weeks, try to start the weekend with the knowledge that even though you may have missed seeing the flowers the past few days, they’re still there, just waiting to be marveled at and appreciated. And you can choose to start appreciating them right now.

How will you choose to see and appreciate the good stuff this weekend?

  1. I like this series:-).
This post is good timing for me because I did NOT sleep enough last night. I’m going to choose (yet again) to look at today as practicing for Selah arrives and I’m up throughout the night and I still have responsibilities and people (like my son!) to be present and loving for. Still going to have a great day, even if I’m already tired at 7 am.

  2. Yes, I’ve had a few of those moments this week and I chose to laugh and be grateful in them. Why?

I want my daughter to know that life is about joy, laughter, compassion, beauty, love, gratitude, etc. (versus drama, melodramatic, whining, etc.)

So I suppose I will kiss and laugh a lot this weekend, for that’s what S did to me as I tried to get her to sleep last night (when I was tired and not so patient).

    • She is so sweet! It’s amazing how much more pleasant I am when I remember that my son’s eyes are on me, learning about life based on how I react to its ups and downs.

  3. I am having a great week this week. On vacation, enjoying the time with my kids, and taking the time to smell the flowers. It’s what the soul needs!

  4. My son informed me sadly that there is exactly one month left of summer vacation, so I am going to thoroughly enjoy this weekend of absolutely nothing scheduled. We may not do anything exciting, but that’s okay.

  5. Nice photo credit!
There are six more weeks of summer here. We go to school late. I haven’t felt relaxed at all. I haven’t stopped to see the flowers. Not that much.
    All of that starts NOW!

  6. The other day, as I was weeding the yard (I am MUCH better at growing dandelions than anything I’ve intentionally planted) I thought “How much happier would I be if I thought these dandelions were as pretty as daisies?” Thanks for reminding us to take a second look.

  7. I love your husband’s pic! Good on you for appreciating his flowers. And thanks for the encouragement. Even though I’m reading this on Monday vs. Friday, it’s always good to get a reminder to stop and smell the flowers.

  8. A great perspective, Katie. When I’m having a bad day, I always think about something good that happened. There’s always something good. You just have to pay attention and acknowledge it.

  9. What a beautiful reminder, Katie. I am actually taking a day off this weekend to do nothing but relax and watch my favorite British comedy on DVD. And I am spending the evening with my son tonight. Life just doesn’t get any better than that. I just love my sons to pieces and am so blessed they visit me so often. Have a beautiful weekend, Katie!
