Feel Good Friday: Lately on Instagram

Feel Good Friday is a regular series to give you a smile, a chuckle, or a nugget of wisdom to get your weekend off on the right foot!

Do you hear that pitter patter? It’s my heart when I look at this picture!

At BlogU in June, Ilana Wiles of Mommy Shorts declared that Instagram is the new Facebook. She said that people in their teens and early twenties are way more plugged into Instagram—some don’t even have a Facebook account, believe it or not!

So to keep up with the times, I’ve been busy snapping away with my iPhone and playing around with different photo editing apps. Here are some of my recent favorites.

Are we connected on Instagram yet? If not, we should be!

We went blueberry picking earlier this week. Get in my freezer!

PLEASE nobody tell him that sweeping the sidewalk isn’t actually supposed to be fun!

Domino lounging outside our old place in Baltimore. #catsrule

Loving our new picnic table, which allows me to get some fresh air while I’m writing!

Finally trying out the maxi skirt trend with help from Target!

When it comes to artsy photos, my husband takes the cake. Here are some of my favorites from his feed.

Do you use Instagram? Do you think it could dethrone Facebook in the kingdom of social media?

  1. I first heard about Instagram from a group of 7th graders who sat near my desk. One (“Fish Girl”) talked about it as she worked. I rolled my eyes and thought, “How silly. Another time waster.”

A few years later, I love it. The learning that one can from it is incredible (National Geographic, Jimmy Chin, Conrad Anker, Talking_Tree, etc. are some of my favorites).

I also find it interesting to see what appears for our town, how people document and perceive it, etc, and appreciate being able to research conditions in future and past travel spots.

Oh, and that it captures a key element of my life (a story in a single photo) is perfect. So, maybe “Fish Girl,” was just tipping me off and I had to be open to the wisdom of a 7th grader.

  2. I love Instagram. It never gets me in a tizzy the way stuff on FB does sometimes. 😉 Love the pictures of your son and you! Great way to capture some unforgettable moments.

  3. I LOVE instagram, but so far, I’ve stayed private and kept the list of people I follow or let follow me relatively small. I’m super tempted as a blogger to go public and start utilizing it, but for now, I treasure the smallness of my insta account. 🙂

We’ll see when I make the plunge!

  4. I am discovering my love of instagram relatively recently but I do think it is an easier way to connect than FB. Of course it’s owned by FB so that could all change in a year or two. Your blueberry picture SOLD me. I have a few too many Blueberry pictures in my feed (Yea Pacific Northwest)! @herownwingsblog

  5. I got back on Instagram (and by back, I mean, I had an account and had uploaded one photo from almost six years ago when I was pregnant). I’ve been trying to upload more but honestly, have a hard time believing that it’ll replace facebook for blogs/writers. I get why teens prefer it, but when it comes to blog traffic, I still get a lot of FB refers. Still, though, Instagram is PRETTY and well. I just followed you. LOVE your pics. My son thinks vacuuming is fun 🙂

    • I agree that when it comes to content, links to your posts, etc., Instagram doesn’t have nearly the power that Facebook does. Followed you back!

  6. When I was participating in #fmsphotoaday, I was obsessed with Instagram. I’d post and comment daily. Made sure I made it through my feed. These days, I’m lazy and don’t feel like I can keep up with commenting (keep that connection ya know?) so I don’t post nearly as much. Plus, I’ve got my big camera to take pictures and I don’t want to have both out. That’s crazy ;). Nevertheless, I’m following you in IG! I’m sure Ilana is right about the new generation not signing up for Facebook but she actually uses Facebook a lot! Perhaps because her readers are mostly parents and they mostly have Facebook accounts already. I actually prefer Twitter over Instagram. Though if I want to grow my blog, I should use IG more.

    • I’m not a great “real” photographer by any means, but we do have a decent camera and I struggle to choose whether to take photos with that or my phone. I’m following you back!

  7. Instagram is my favorite form of social media. I def. like it better than facebook! Honestly, I rarely use facebook except for blog-related things. I just keep it to stay in touch with friends who don’t live nearby. Love your photos… your little one is so cute!

  8. I like Instagram, but I still want the story, so I turn to facebook. Plus I have so many people from my past connected to me on facebook, I don’t think I could ever leave!
PS My 4YO loves sweeping the sidewalk. Everyone else better watch out!!
